LEESTON STOCK SALE

Owing to the fact that there had been no sale at Leeston for three weeks, there was a fairly good entry of stock at yesterday's market, the numbers being made up.as follows: 300 sheep. 205 fat.pigs, 224 store pigs, and 76 cattle. Tho attendance of farmers was well up to the average. The entry of fat sheep was very small but competition was keen and the few offered sold well. Fat cattle went with a fairly brisk demand, and values on tbe whole were very satisfactory. The greater portion of the entry of cattle consisted of calves and older stores, which were very difficult to sell, owing to the unusual scarcity offered. Dairycattle wero not well represented. The fat pig market had an easing tendency, while the bottom seemed to have completely fallen out of the store pig market. Stores that were difficult to sell yesterday at 9s Or 10s realised over 20s not many weeks-ago. The reason is that farmers have no feed to spare, while;pig feed is at'present fairly expensive to buy.. The. ran go of values was as follows: Fat ewes 17s 6d, aired fat ewes 9s; fat wethers, 16s 3d to 16s 6d; store ewes, 10s 6tl'; 75 ewe s and 65 lambs, lis Id; best bacon pigs 52s to 70s, equalto 5Jd per lb; porkers, from 30s, equal to old to. s£d per lb; large stores, 12s 6d to 225; weaners, from 3s 4d; : fat cows, £6 10s to £S 2s 6d: fat heifers, £6 to £6 10s; fat steers. £10 10s; cows in milk. £3 2s 6d to £6 ss; springers,/ £6 to £8; store cows, £2 7s 6d to £4 16s; store steers, £3; calves, from 13s; yearlings, from 465.
