Mr W. G. Ashford, Minister for Agriculture, resents tho adverso criticisms of tho Wheat Acquisition Board. He says thousands of people have causo to bo grateful to tho Board for preventing the price of bread rising to sixpence a loaf. Regarding the financial, position, the chairman states that after paying all farmers' claims the Beard has a credit of £77,000.

Representatives of the Defence Department are inspecting horses at tho Flemington racing stables, in search of suitable cavalry mounts.

As a result of the Lumpers' Union's refusal to work with naturalised Germans, a number of men and their families are in a pitiable plight. One has been 36 years in Australia and helped to form the .original Melbourne Wharf Labourers'""Union. Another has two sons in the cadet forces and a third with tho troops in Egypt. Most of the men are unable to get work, and the Government refuses to intern them in the prisoners' camp because they are naturalised.

Owing to the number of players who have enlisted the Northern Rugby Union has notified the New South Wales League that it is impossible for an-.Australian team to tour England during tho coming season as intended.
