THE DOUGLAS RIOT.
GUARDS' ACTION JUSTIFIED. LONDON, November 27. In connexion with tho Douglas riot, in which Austrian and German prisoners of war attempted to escape and the guards were forced to use their rifles, killing five and wounding fifteen, a verdict of justifiable homicide was returned. LONDON, November 28. Several of the interned prisoners at Douglas gave evidence that the outbreak was pre-arranged. The ringleader told his comrades to take off their numbers, as something was going j to happen. j Soldiers gave evidence that they were subjected to a fusillade of knives," forks, and crockery for ten minutes before they fired. The missiles injured several soldiers. The complaints about the food were unjustified. The outbreak was the work of agitators.
