MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

A meeting of the executive of trie Citizens' Defence Corps was held on Friday. Present—Messrs 0. Harper (president) in the chair. Alpers, Adams, Curry, Fisher. Gibson, Grier.on, Hardey. Hobdav, Hooper. Johnson. LpversedKO. Orchard, Webb, W. "Williams, Cyrus Williams, and Wither.. It was resolved that each unit which is not represented on tho General Committee be asked to elect a member to a seat thereon. » The president was asked to urge the authorities to ailow the corps the uso of the rifles now on issue to the School Cadets during their holiaays (in November and December). It was suggested to the Commandant that after the next general parade at the Barracks ("Wednesday next, *_)id December) the units should at> xiange their own parades m each 01 their districts, and that the adjutant be asked to call a meeting of officers to discuss military matters. A general meeting of the AddingtonSprefdon unit (No. 10) was held on Saturday evening in the Oddfellows Hall, A'ddington, when there was" an attendance of 70. Captain C. H. Hewlett presiding by invitation. The chairman expressed his pleasure and appreciation at tho large attendance, which showed that thoso present were in real earnest to further tho movement which had been so successfnllv initiated by the Citizens* I>efcnce Committee. Mr Hewlett also outlined the details of the organisation, and congratulated the Defence Committee ou the thoroughness of their work up to the present, and on the loyalty and patriotism of those MOO men who had enrolled aud who were qualifying for any emergency that may occur in our midst. . Considerable interest, was taken in the election of c-ifi;-o.s. which resulted as follows:—Captain, Mr Charles Taylor: platoon commanders. Messrs A. J. Bent ley and K. Amos; section commanders. Sergeants A. Hunter, G. *W. Hasell, J. Munnings, and F. C. Schwartz : hou. secretary, Mr "Walter Johnson. Captain Taylor was elected las the unit representative on the Genera! Committee. It was decided to hold parade*, on j "Wednesday evenings, and the captain i and secretary were authorised to interview the secretary of the A. and P. j Association with a view of securing the Show Grounds for drilling.
