CHRISTCHURCH NORTH ELECTION.

TO Tm? EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I would like to know what claim Mr L. M. Isitt has to be re-elected as member for Christchurch North. During the past threo years he has officially visited the district about three times, and IK-yond his fruitless efforts in connexion with grants for Elmwood School and Klmwood Park he has done nothing for u.s, though he ha* regularly drawn his screw of £6 a week. Why has he left the finding of work for unemployed all to Mr MeCombs, although there are many men out of work in his own district? The fact is. Mr Lsitt is merely a talker and not a worker. Mr Toogood has yet to bo proved as a member of Parliament, but as an old employee of the Government railway workshops, and as a civil engineer he is a practical man, and when you want work done the practical man is best for the job. The Rev. S. Lawry urges the claim of Mr Isitt for support on tho ground that he is the leader of the temperance party: but has Mr Isitt. by consistently supporting the political party which is represented in both Houses by prominent members of "the Trade," done tho temperance movement any good during tho past

Lhree years? Is tho present lifeless state of the prohibition movement duo to Mr Isitt's leadership? If so, there must be somo truth in the report that a leading brewer in Christchurch, a supporter, like Mr Isitt. of Sir Joseph Ward, has said that Mr Isitt in Parlia- I ment is better for "the Trade" than Mr Isitt out of it. On the defence question. I don't __ think there is a man in New Zealand who know., whore Mr Isitt stands, but at this time no matter what political party a candidate supports, ho should be sound on that question, for - I beliovo the worst of the war, so far j as England is concerned, has yet to j como.—Yours, etc.. A WORKER. Bealey Avenue. November 21«t. | P.S. —This letter was sent to the ' "Lyttelton Times" a week ago. but has not been published. I should like to add to my letter that I think Mr Isitt's attack upon the Defence Minis- ! tor at Milton tho other night is quite sufficient cause for the electors to turn | him down.
