THE RICCARTON ELECTION.

TO THE EDITOR OF "ttTR PR~RS." Sir, —In your issue of the 28th inst., under tho abovo heading, "Fendalton Resident" severely reproaches his fellows in this electorate for their apathy and supinoness as regards tho candidature of Mr Bertram Bunn. Ho may be quito justified—very probably he is— for there does not seem to bo any organisation on the Reform side in this district, but he would be much more likely to secure his purpose if ho could induce Mr Bunn to show himself amongst u s and tell us his .principles and views. Personally. I cannot get up much enthusiasm in support of a candidate who I had never seen or heard of till he announced his candidature, and who has not, as far as I can learn, held any meeting in the district—one of the most populous in the electorate, 1 suppose— while actively electioneering in every other part of it. Nor havo his canvassers been round us. He should not assume wo aro all Reformers in Fendalton, though personally I never, in the last thirty years, cast a voto for the Ward-Red led party, and may God forbid I over shouldBut, before voting for Mr Bunn, I must know his principle* and views oh the Defence question, both as reciards compulsory training ard in its Imperial aspect, to which, in my judgment, all others shou'.d n< present bp absobitelv subordinate. We sec enough "rickety" wobbling around us on that question, and Mr Bunn should speak on it with no uncertain sound if he wants my vote. —Yours, etc., EDW. ,G. LEVINGE (M.8.1). November 20th.
