Derby Day dawned with somo uncertainty aa to weather. Tho cloudy grey soon changed, iiotverer, to the wind-swept blue of a nor'-west morning- Racegoers set out with the happy reflection that in any case there is no placo in or near Chrislchurch less affected by the ''riotous" nor'-west wind than our delightful course at Riccsrtcii, and tho light breeze which, in the o.nd, was all that this risitatioa amounted to, never caused more than an agreeable tomperinc; to what proved a, typical Canterbury sunnner day. Under the flood of sutshine the summer array which everyonf- had chosen for Derby Day wear loo\td appropriately festive. There was not quite e-uch * large attendance as -~i Cup day.
