READY TO FIGHT FOR AUSTRALIA

(Received August 6th, 10.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 6. 3lr Cook is not in sympathy] with tho proposals to postpone the Federal elections, or that all opposition of the sitting members bo withdrawn. Tho minors in tho Maitland mines who struck against the afternoon shift, have declined the Labour Departments suggestion that, in view of tho war, tcey should resume, although they are prepared to resume on a one-shift baste.

A meeting of Germans in tho Wallawalla district adopted a resolution expressing unswerving loyalty to tho British flag, and stating that as Aus-tralian-born, they were prepared to : stand shoulder to shoulder with Australians and giro their blood and money to the defence of tho country and tho British flag, no matter who the ininvaders be.

ADELAIDE, August 6

The Assembly adopted the Address-iri-Reply,'.and cheered tho Governor's reply thereto, which expressed the. hope that peace would coon bo restored, and" that the British nation would emerge from tho war stronger, wiser, and moro confident than eveV.
