AN EXPLANATION.

London • mentioned that the Wine Trade Club had tasted a. number ; of wiijes aud declared that th© Cawarra brand was a. long way above other brands. Exception had been taken to this message by Messrs Penfold and Co., on the ground that this was' merely a ■ private trial, and neither they nor <6ther firms had been'asked to submit samples or knew anything about the'experiment.j ..Enquiry shows that this is correct, and that the message was misleading. The club mentioned is merely-a social and educational club, and though'it holds periodical tastings.' they are for comparative, uofc competitive, purpose. and~V3.ro hot in the nature of a public competition on a broad basis. The opinion expressed was merely the oresi-' dent's, and evidently only'had .reference to such wines as were before the club. It cannot therefore be regard**! as in . any way authoritative or detrimental to growers'who wero not represented-
