ATHLETICS.
UNWELCOME CRITICISM.
NO REFLECTION INTENDED. (SrECUI. TO "THE PRESS.") ' - DUNEDLN", July 17. Certain remarks maae by Mr Breen, secretary of the Otago. Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic -Association, at a meeting ■of the Centre, aroused the ire of members of the Canterbury Centre. Last night a letter was received in which it*was stated that, at a meeting of the Canterbury Centre, a delegate had produced a cutting from a newspaper reporting that the secretary of tho Otago Centre Lid made disparaging remarks regarding the management and personnel of the Canterbury Centra.' Mr Breen, at last night's meetrntr, said that if the. Canterbury Centre were looking for trouble he could,, provo his statements, but as tor attacking tho personnel of the Canterbury Ceatro he had not intonded to do so, and to say that he had was wholly inaccurate. If* he had said anything it was in the interests of the sport. The sEoe evidently pinched pretty badly or the Canterbury Centre would not have .taken the matter as it had. It was decided to write to the Canterbury Centre stating that no reflection, was intended.
