DISPLAY OF SELECTED SPECIMENS.

A notable display of specimens of the apples recently selected by readers of "The Press" is at the present timo on view in tho window of Messrs i Archer and Halliburton's establishi ment, Colombo street, and is attracting a great amount of interest. The list of tho best sis apples as judged by our readers is as follows: —Lord Wolseloy, Sturraer, Cox's Orar.gc Pippin, Irish Poach, Jonathan, and Ribston Pippin. Four specimens of each of these are displayed with the exception of the lri.h Peach, which is a very early apple, and is not available just now." All the apple, were grown locally the. majority coming from Mr J. ll". H. Archer's orchard, St. Martin's, and they comprise some remarkably fir.o specimens. There is aiso shown in the earn© window a collection of the 6ix best apples selected by the Government expert. These are:—Lord Suffield, Worcester Pearmain, Reinette dv Canada, Jonathan. Lord Wolseley, aud Stunner Pippin. AH but the first two aro included in the collection, and here again some fino specimens aro to be seen. The apples will be on exhibit for some littlo timo. They form a most interesting display in view of the recent "Press" competition, and they ..b_> demonstrate tbo suitability of the Christchurch district for apple-grow-ing.
