BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA
The fortnightly meeting of tho Akaroa Borough Council .vas held on Wedi esday evening. Present:—Crs. Lewifct (in tho chair), Vangioni, Cantrell, Munro, Williams, Fredericksen, Walker, and Leete. Tho striking of a general rate of IJd in tho £1 for the current year was confirmed. Correspondence was received from the Public | Works Department regarding the ap- | pointment of an inspector of buildings I for the borough.—Received. From tho Hackthorno Road Burgesses' Association, renuesting information as to charges and supply of electric current. Tho clerk reported that tho information had been supplied. From the Akaroa County Council, regarding boat slip for launch-owners at Akaroa, and enclosing letter from the • Hon. It. H. Rhodes , with reference to a Government grant of £50 towards tho building of same. It was decided that a plan be procured and forwarded to the Marine Department, with an application for the grant. The Lighting Committee reported having accepted the tender of Messrs Turnbull and Jones for cable at £200 10s, and Dare wire at £2 2s. and of the National Electric Company for wire at £5 10s, and insulators at - 12s per dozen.—Adopted. Il was deI cided that an overdraft of £2000 bo arranged for at the Bank of New Zealand, also that the bank be approached •with regard to a loan of £1000 at 5 per cent, for electric light ex tension.
