-5-R.G. A. MACQ. AIUUE. j Mr G. A. Macquarrie, of Glentona, Nelson, died on Wednesday evening at his residence. Mr Macnnarrio wa* tho actual founder of tho Christ- . rhurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Ciub. somo forty-seven years ago, and was known as the father of tho pigeon fancy in Now Zealand. He was a lifo morabor of tho Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club, and, with his partner, Mr Arthur Smith wa. the most auecc-sful exhibitor in pigeons at the recent Chomnionfihip Show held in Obrf; -sburoh. For some time he was manager of tho Union Bank at Palmerston J£- rth, afterwards being removed to Auckland and Dunedin hu 4 - j . hi. latter years be lived a retired lifo in Nelson. His connexion vith tho Union Bank extended over 20 years, and part of the time he held the position of manager. Ho imported large numbers of pigeon, and canaries from both Australia and England. His first shipment was selected for him by the late*Mr Alfred Saunders away back in 1875. During tho timo he was a resident of Christchur_- in tbo seventies he w_scaptain.of the Christchurch Football Club. Besides .is connexion with the .Christchurch Poultry X_nb, Mr Macquarrie was president or the Neisoa Poultry Club for many years.
