It was '-nlvui-ii-y. he said, that the line would require £200,000 to complete, and it was asked that £40.000 a year should be voted for five years in order that the line might be'completed atr-the same tin:. the Otira tunnel. It was a matter for ; consideration by the Cabinet. I The Hon. W. Fraser .aid that he . could not yet saY what sums would be ; placed on the Estimates for any work-- ' this year. Such a large request as that made by the deputation was a matte: for Cabinet's consideration. The Government had no ri_ht to pled-.e Pa» liament for five years. He also reminded the deputation that when it asked for £40.000 a year for five years, it was asking for, more than any other part of the Dominion had obtained.
