(SPECIAL TO 'THE TRESS.") WELLINGTON, July 15. A number of further petitions were presented in the House of Representatives to-day praying that the Referendum Bill bo not passed. The following were the members presenting petitions: —Messrs McCombs (Lyttelton), Lee (Oamaru), Young (Waikato), Coates (Kaipara), Atmore (Nelson), Nosworthy (Ashburton), J. Bollard (Eden), Scott (Otago Central), Thomson (Dunedin North), Anderson (Mataura), Harris (Waitemata), ,__ine (Strafford), Forbes (Kaiapoi), Thomson (Wallace), McGaLlum (Wairau), Reed (Bay of Islands), Wilkinson (Egmont), Statham (Dunedin Central) R. F. Bollard (Raglan), Sidey (Dunedin South), Dr. Newman (Wellington East). Tlie total number of signatures on these petitions was 9463, making the total- number of signatures on all petitions against the Bill that have beon presented •to Parliament this session, 38,082. to the' editor or "the j*iiess." Sir, —As one of the "fanatical mothers" I protest against tho statement made by Mr John Barr in his letter of the 10th inst., to the effect that we are "carried away by the arguments of Canon Garland and liis . brothers-in-arms." We are all sane women, with minds of our own,- but proud to work under the able and wise leadership of Canon Garland, who would be one of the first to say that he could not have done the great work he has were it not for the women who have supported him. As for the sneer at Canon Garland "attempting to shelter himself behind a woman," it is too contemptible to need any comment. —Yours, etc.,
