DR.ADENEY ON PROHIBITION.
MR ISITT'SFEARS. Writing in the "Christian World" ofi May 21st, tho Rev. Dr. Adeney, tho distinguished Nonconformist minister who recently, toured New Zealand, says in regard to tho temperance question: —"The local option is already allowed. It has clearod up some places. But whero drink is readily available, it ie very delusivo. Now the Temperance party is working for total prohibition, and.a vote is to be taken on tho subject , next December, under tho referendum, a prospect that interests tho people more than the stDproachingPar- - liamentary election; Mr Isitt, a leading temperance advocate and member of Parliament, with whom I had some talk on the subject, fears that the demand is too great, and that it would be more practical politics simply to work for the closing of the public oars. It would be indeed a drastic measure to make private drinking in the home a criminal offence, evil as tho practieo may be iv the eyes of the moralist;"
