OPERA HOUSE.
At tha Opera House last night the new programme was given a splendid recoptiou by a crowded audience. One of the best items of the evening was the sketch, "The Pool Room," presented by Fred C. Hagan and Company. There are five actors in the cast, the melodrama in miniature proving very popular. Fernandez, who, with his partner, slny, presented an eccentric musical act. has discovered the musical instrument upon which ragtime can be played with a maximum of effect. A tin, a piece of string, and a stick wore all he used, but he brought down the house with bis playing of 'Everybody's Doing It." Fernandez holds his violin in both hands, grips I the bow with his knees, and discourses sweet music notwithstanding. Varying his performance, be uses a match instead of - bow, and the melody is still there. Such are a few of his eccentricities. Dennis Carney was immensely successful with his new songs, and his farcical sketch, "A Man of Nerres," which concluded the programme, was ono of the best of the series! Livermore made his first appearance hero with his animated doll. He had the aud'om-e staring with amazement. aiH '•took thorn all in" when hie clockworkdoll that reproduced every action of an •mimate body proved more human than was supposed. Carlton Max and Jerry, "the dummy," were associated in a ventriloquial act, quite new and quite as successful as its predecessors. \ welcome re-appearanco was that of the "Era Comedy Four," a quartet of coloured singers, dancers, and comedians Their turn was brimful of merit Knowles and Lee, vocalists; Ray Lawrence, "Just an American G'rV" and the "National Duo, child performers, were also well received in their r elective turns. . To-night tho same bill will be giren for tho second time, and on Saturday afternoon there will be a special matinee performance.
