IN THE BARRACKS.

In the Salvation Army Barracks, Victoria square, a epouai service was conducted by tJtaff-Uapuiin Gunn in commemoration of tho comrades lost in the St. Lawrence disaster. Spedai hymns were sung and Sister Meadows, who was Dersonally acquainted with several of tho victims, spoke in appreciation of them and referred feolinglv to CoTiinii.Njiorei- llces, under wjom she bad learned to become a ijalyation Army olacer. She eulogised his fine and said that there were a, iroccJ many people in this world who owed a groat deal to his kindly advice. He was a devout and earnest Christian who loved and served God. Her address was illustrated with many personal anecdotes of the Commissioner. Staff-Captain Gunn said that the Army had received a vtfry large number of messages of sympathy in the great loss that tho.y had sustained, and amonsr them he- read messages from the Christ-church Methodist Ministers' Association and from tho Christchurch Presbytery. He also said that tho Christchurch Salvation Army bandsmen had been anxious to express their sympathy with their Canadian comrades, so they had despatched a cablegram to that effect, and had received an acknowledgment of thanks and comradeship, which h> read. Staff-Captain Gunn said that in times such as these disasters all felt together in univorsal sympathy, and ho would like to see tho gathering express iteolf in some way. The congregation then, at his suggestion, roso and stood while- tho band played tho "Dead March."
