TOWN-PLANNING.

ENVOYS FROM ENGLAND.

'"Town-planning has captured the imagination of Australian statesmen and the public generally," declared Mr Charles C. Reade, organiser of the Australasian town-planning tour, who arrived in Christchurch on Sunday from Wellington. "Already in New Zealand, the movement for town-planning has made considerable headway—thanks to the efforts of people like Lord Islington, Mr Arthur Myers, M.P., Mr Hurst Seager, F.R.1.8.A., and others. Mayors and members of local bodies have welcomed our proposals with great interest aud cordiality. _n many towns halls and lanterns havo been spontaneously placed at our disposal. __ I arrived in Wellington only last Wednesday, after a very busy rush through Australia, where already sixtj' lectures are arranged for in the Commonwealth between Brisbane and Kalgoorlie (395 miles inland from Perth), thanks to the State Governments providing grants towards our expenses. The day I reached Now Zealand, tho Hon. H. T>. Bell, Minister I for Internal Affairs, received mc most courteously, and intimated that the j Government would grant £350 towards [ the expanses of the lecture campaign in the. Dominion, which will amount to about £700. This does not include any remuneration to the lecturers, who have undertaken to give their services free, provided out-of-pocket and travelling expenses in New Zealand aro met. "I have dome to New Zealand," said Mr Reade, "to ask the public and thoso in authority to help us financially, and otherwise, to assure these lectures by Mr Davidge, who will arrive in New Zealand about Ist July, a hearing that will reach all classes of the Dominion. "We have just one month to arrango for lectures and secure the necessary funds to cover tho expenses of the campaign." Mr Davidge and Mr Reade will commence their lectures in Christchurch. about the third week in July.
