ASHBURTON A. AXD P. ASSOCIATION.

A largely- attended meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton A. and P. Association was hoid on Saturday aftcrnoon_. the president. Mr J. Cairns, being in the chair. A letter was read from Mr J. McLouflilan, thanking the Association for its fetter of condolence in his late bereavement.

A letter was read from Mr E. C. Studholine, one of tho judges at the autumn show, suggesting that in future ono judge should be appointed for the cobs, pomes, nnd light horse sections. Mr Studholni- also a_ke>d the corumittee to accept as a donation to tho Association's fund, .t-1 Is, as his expenses in attending the show. Satisfactory letters from several other judges wero also read. The president was appointed a delegate to represent the Association on the Central Committee in connexion with the Panama Pacific Exposition. A letter was read Hum Mr R. B. Bennett, representative of Messrs li. -'itter and Sons, in turther reference to the prize of £5 5s ottered by the firm for.a pen of fat lambs by Down rams at the late show. The linn was still of opinion that the conditions attached to tho prize had not beeu complied with, and therefore the prize could not be given. To prevent any groat loss to the Association, however, Mr Bennett offered personal.y to donate £3 3s. Tho offer was accepted with thanks. A letter was read from Mr W. F. M. Buckley, thanking the Association for having nominated him as a member of tho Board of Agriculture, in place of the late Mr Maci'arJane. A donation of £2 2s was made to the Ashburton Technical Classes Association.

A letter was read from Mr L. Bowman, of the Agricultural Department, making suggestions ior improvements in awarding prizes in the honey classes at tho next show. Tho letter was referred to tho Produce Committee.

Satisfactory re.orts were read from the supervisors m the draught and light-horse sections at the autumn show. Mr D. Wood, one of the past presidents, on behalf of tho Association, presented 3lr Ales. Drummond with a bound volume of the cataloguo of The autumn show, as a memento of Mr Drummond's year of office as president. In doing so ; Mr Wood spoko in terms of high praise of tho manner in which Mr Drummond had carried out his .duties during his year of office.. Mr Drummond suitably acknowledged the compliment paid him by the Association, and the manner in which Mr Wood had spoken of his services.

Mr D. Farghcr was elected a member of the Association. Mr T. Taylor, chairman of the Ploughing Match Committee, reported that two suitable paddocks for the match had been placed at the disposal of tlie committee by Messrs Nicoll Bros. It was a most suitable spot, and was conveniently situated near the Ashburton Racecourse. 'Airdetails in connexion with the ploughing v mateh were well in hand, and it was anticipated that,-given fine weather, the match would be a. great success.
