LEESTON.
(Before Messrs J. Barnett and A. Chamberlain, J.P.'s.) John Netting, who did not appear, was charged by the bprings County Council (Mr Brown) with failing to comply with an order requiring him to remove gorse and broom'from his road frontages. Mr Brown said that the usual procedure in such cases was to enter a conviction and impose a penalty of 10s per day if the work was not oompleted within a certain time. Henry Nealo, clerk to the Springs County Council, gave evidence that he had 6orved notice on defendant, by direction of his Council, and that up to the present the gorse had not been cleared. The defendant was defying the Council, and it was desired that "firm steps should be taken to compel him to com- ] ply with the order. The Bench remarked that defendant had apparently j been playing with the Court, convictod him, and ordered him to carry out the work within two months, failing which a penalty of 10s per day would be inflicted. Costs were allowed against the defendant.
