COUNTY COUNCILS.
SPRINGS
The ordinary meeting of the Springs County Council was held on Tuesday, ah the councillors being present. Mr Crump interviewed the Council in regard to a pipe culvert being blocked across" the Leeston road, and was informed that it would be cleared as soon as possible. Correspondence was received from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board inviting the Council to tho opening of tho King George V. Corouatiou Memorial Hospital, at Cashmere Hills, on Juno 3rd. It was decided to accept the invitation and the members thought it a fitting opportunity of interviewing the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes on matters connected with the district. A copy of proposed receipts and expenditure for tho current year was. also received, from the Board. The Council's proportion of which, was £712 lis lOd, this being upward of £250 more thaxt last yea*, nnd surprise was expressed at tbo ever increasing demand for Hospital and Charitable Aid purposes. Tho Public Works Department form of application for application for grants, ir required. It wa3 xeported that application had-been made for grants for reading tho Lake Settlement. The Council were-informod that the Waiwera County Council had been carting gravel over, and cut up the main road at Motukarara during tho recent wet weather, and it was decided to inform them that the Council's contractorwere not allowed to cart in wet weather, and they were expected to observe" the samo rule. Notico of intention to levy a id -rate for Springston riding, and 9-16 d for the Greenpark riding, for the current year, was given. The overseer reported that the Lincoln bridge had boon cross decked, the weed-cutting launch painted and repaired, mid two concrete culverts opened xip for traffic during the month, but owing to the scarcity of labour, all the district drains were not cleaned, and it was decided to clean what is known as fc>toddart\s drain, and tho others as soon as possible.
