ORGAN RECITAL.

The attendance at the Tschaikowsky recital last night suffered greatly from the sudden downpour shortly before its commencement. T_chai_owsky's music still stands in the foreground ol contemporary productions, and the two principal numbers of last night's programme, the Finalo from the "1812' Overture, 'and the two movements of tho "Pathetic Symphony," afforded a fair insight into tho art of the Russian master. Tho "1812," which, we heard admirably performed as a whole by tho Sousa, Band, is, in spite of its sometimes barbarous blaro, a grand inspiration, designed with wonderful realism. Has not Beethoven also sot to music the "Battle of Vittoria." a -inular endeavour? The music of the "Pathetic Symphony" is of a nobler, purer type, deeply touching in its despairing accents. The "Andanto ,r and "Scherzo," from a string quartet, could only with difficulty be recognised in the.organ transcription. The other two suffered to a lesser extent, and were certainly very finely interpreted by Dr. Bradshaw, who tried in the additional numbers to lessen the depressing effect of a, Tscha.ikowskv recital pure and simple, on the organ to boot. One can but feel a sadder and a limper man.
