DOMAIN BOARD.
£1250 TO BE LEVIED FROM LOCAL BODIES. A snecial meeting of the ClirLstchurch Domain Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present —Messrs H. J. Beswick (chairman). W. H. Cooper, H. Holland, G. Harper, J. McCulkmgh, J. .lamieson, and C. D. Morris. The chairman stated that it was necessary to decide that month what sum tho Board was to call upon local iiodies to contribute towards tho Board's funds. A sub-committee vet up to consider the question had recommended that £1250 be collected in rates for this year. Mr H. Hollaud supported the proposal to collect £1250, and said he was very - pleased that the committee had decided it could carry ou with that sum. , Mr W. H. Cooper said he was of the opinion that with judicious expenditure tho Board could get along with £1000. He drew attention to the fact that the Fire Board and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board were this year increasing their domands upon pro-jierty-holders. The chairman pointed out that the Domain Board's demands were very reasonable. It eliould bo remembered that tho Board was losing from £400 to £450. the amount proviously contributed by local bodies. Mr Holland referred to Lyttelton's attitude towards the Domain Board's new rating powers, and raid ho was pleased to see that tho Board's proposals had mot with such general approval .as opposed to tho paltry and spirit- adonted by the Spreydon Borough Council, which body did not desire to contribute anything town Ms t u o imkecp of the Domain.
