Briefly" rolateu, J the story concerns Jean Morin, a handsome young draughtsman, who is dismissed by a jealous manager. After many vicissitudes, in the course of which Morin is reduced to a penurious condition, he picks m> a note-book m the streets of Paris, which contains a large sum of money. H e returns the find to the owner, a wealthy silk manufacturer, who Rives Morin employment at his works. Morin gains rapid promotion, until he occupies tho post of secretary to the proprietor. The stur picture was a drama "Chasing the .Smugglers," which was a most exciting affair altogether. "It had the advantage of a nautical setting which gives any picture a strong interest, and* the story told was ono which aroused the Keen interest oi those who witnessed the picture. "A Chip of the Old Block' , was an unusualiy comedy produced by the noted Keystone firm, and was well up to the kigh standard associated with Keystone pictures. A good vitagraph drama was "The Only Veteran in Town." "Fish Culture" was a most interesting study showing how fish are artificially raised for food purposes. The latest English Gazette, and a comedy, "The Marriage Portion,"' were also i included in tho programme. To-day the same, pictures will he shown eontiuuously from noon til] 1(3.30 p.m. GRAND THEATRE. "Stella" wps the big picture in the new programme at tho Grand Theatro yesterday. It was a story of circus lifedealing with tho love of two friends for the ono woman, a, beautiful acrobat. The adventures set out were of a most thrilling nature, and some splendid situations were developed. "The Kid Sheriff" was a drama* of tho popular Western type, based on a very strong plot. Tho Eclair Journal contained pictures of all the recent happenings, and presented also up-to-date specimens of ladies' fashions in dresses and hats. "The Tale of a Fish," and -'The New Cook," ivero most entertaining comics, which produced roars of laughter. Tho music played by the orchestra was most enjoyable-, and added materially to the. success of tho programme. Tc-day the programme will ba repeated continuously from noon till 11 p.m. QUEEN'S THEATRE. The new bill to be presented to-day and to-night at the Queen's Continuous Picture Theatre, Hereford street, includes a very well-chosen set of dramatic, humorous, and scenic pictures, and should satisfy the most jaded pic-ture-gazer. The principal item is a drama called "A Marriage at Sea," which, besides being a charming lovo story, introduces an exciting chaso wherein the loving couple are pursued by tho lady's father. There is a shrilling race bet-ween a motor-car and a train, but eventually the young people get out hoyond the three mile limit at &en, whore the nvarriago ceremony is performed in spite of tho father's objections. Tbo attractions of the film are added to from its being beautifully coloured. The'other: dramatic subject is "What the Crystal Told," a powerful story, showing how a young, girl disguises herself as a gipsy in order to bring her betrayer to .justice. Other pictures on the bill are "A Study in Botany." "Won in a Cupboard." " "The Uncanny Mr Gamble"" (Edison comedy), and the latest edition of the Pathe "Gazette." The "soocials" for to-morrow's matinee are "The Banker's Daughter" (Kalem drama), and "Tho Bearded Baudii" (Essanay drama). OPERA HOUSE. There* was a crowded attendance at. the Opera House last night. The Five Juggling Normans, in their clever juggling act: Henri Kuooiik, the Hungarian violin virtuoso, and Harry Gribben and Co., in his successful London sketch, were enthusiastically received, and tho others members, who included Woodward and Page, Sharratt and Lang, Kingsle)" and Graham, Margaret Caraher, Biff and Do Anna, and Cbarles Zolj. were all successful in their items. To-nicht the programme will be repeated. On Moiviny GarrlHer's '"Mfi'iiao" Bulldogs will be the chief attraction. FUT-T.-FR'S, PTOTTirmc;. The current programme of film subjects is delighting good audiences nightly at the Colosseum. '"Honesty," an exceedingly strong Pathe-colour drama, is tho attraction. It will bo shown tonight, to-morrow afternoon, at 2.30, and finally to-morrow night. HAYWARD'S PICTURES. His Majesty's Theatre was again weil filled last nieht when the current programme of Hayward's pictures was rei eated. To-night tho same pictures will be shown. OLYMPIA RINK. The floor at tho Olympia Rink resoutided to tho roll of many wheels yesterday. The popularity of roller skating is as strong as ever, and large crowds attended the various sessions, amongst the number being many becinners. To-day the usual sessions will be held. THE KENNEDYS. The Kennedy Company of musicians will commence a season at the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening. The Kennedys aro described as an artistic combination, who have not failed to arouse great enthusiasm wherever they have appeared. The Melbourne "Age" said:—"Last night's audience wolcomed the Kennedys in no uncertain fashion, every item in the programmebeing encored, and it was unanimously agreed that the combination is one of the most talented ever seen in tho -Commonwealth."
