AN UNDESIRABLE.

WANGANUI, March 19. John Thomas Maloney (with seven aliases), who had worked his way up from Bluff, and has a ponchant for stealing goods otitside shop doors, was charged at the local Court witli the theft of goods from tho doorways of local shops of a total value of £5 los, and also a coat valued at £4 from a motor-car.
Sergeant Burke stated that accused went about with" a largo bag, and this ho stuffed full with articles exposed for sale outside- shops. When arrested Maloney was wearing a motor coat ho had stolen in the Avenue.
Tho Sergeant added that Maloney was 61 years of ago, and came to the Dominion from Australia in July, 1910, bringing a very long criminal record with him. On arrival afc the Bluff he was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for being a stowaway. Since his arrival in this country less than four years ago he has been sentenced for 26 different charges of theft, and in serving these terms he has spent close on three and a Half years in gaol. Sentences totalling five months' imprisonment were imposed.
