OBITUARY.

MR THOMAS HUNTER

Last week one of the well-known 'settlers of Canterbury in the person of Mr "Dion-as Hunter, storekeeper, passed away at the ago of sixty-eight years. Air Hunter was a native of infesbire, Scotland, and came to Lyttelton in the ship British Empire, in i 1864. For many years ho was in business as a storekeeper in Victoria street, Christchureh. Ho then moved to Bonthland, but returned to CanterIntry, and held, with his sons as pnrtneza, the general store at East Oxford. On selling out Mr Hunter for a time resided at Southbrook, and later at Weafc Melton. Although nover in any prominernt public position, except that of an-2-der of the Presbyterian Church, be -was greatly respected for his probiter «f cl-aracter. Hunter, Rj_ngtora, manager of the New Zea_um_ F_jxr_ers' Co-operativo Association; Mr W. J. Hunter, solicitor, Christchnrch; Mr H. U. Hunter, estate agent, and Mr M. R. Hunter, iomxial-st, "recently of C-bristch-tjjch. and Suva, who is now in England. The funeral, which was a private one, took place an Monday, and four of his sons Acted as pall-bearers. The Rev. D.
