A PLEASANT OUTING

In pursuance of the policy of civic visits established between the respec-

tive councils of Timaru and Christchurch, the members of the City Council of Cliristchurch yesterday journeyed to Timaru at the invitation of the Timaru Borough Council, and enjoyed a pleasant day's outing in the inspection of various activities of the borough and of local "sights." The party, which travelled from Christchureh, comprised his Worship the Mayor. Mr H. Holland, and Councillors Otley, Millar, MeCullough, Sorenson, Williams, Burgoyne, Hunter, Scott, and Cooper, and Messrs H. .R. Smith (town clerk), and A. D-. Dobson 'city surveyor). The party travelled by a special excursion train, which left Christchureh at 8.5 a.m., and arrived at Timaru at. 11.40 a.m. On the station to welcome the visitors were the- Mayor of Timaru, (Mr W. Angland), Mr J Craigie. M.P., Mr J. Hole, and Mr G. S. Cray, and other prominent citizens. After visiting the Municipal Chambers an adjournment was made to the Grosvenor Hotel, where luncheon was enjoyed. . In addition to the guests from Christchurch, and the memoers of the lunaru Borough Council, the following attended the luncheon:—The Mayor of Waimate (Mr J. Black), Mr Jas. Craigie, MP Mr K. G. Turner, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr F. J. Rolleston, chairman of the Harbour Board. Mr G. S. Cray, chairman of the Caroline Bay Association, Mr J. Hole, ex-Mayor, Mr J. P. Newman, manager of the Canterbury Farmer*' Co-opera-tive Association, Drs. Gabites and Thomas.
