CARPENTERS' AWARD.
(fRESS ASSOCIATION' TELZCRAU.)
WELLINGTON. March 14
When the Wellington carpenters' dispute was before the Arbitration Court last week, the nion applied ior the recent Dunedin award. The employers objected on the ground that the Court, in making that award, rejected the •'under-raj.o workers" clause which was inserted in the Wanganui agreement in return for increased pay and shorter hours conceded to the men, and inserted instead the Court's, usual "under-rate workers' clause." The Wellington employers held out for tho original agreement. In the award filed to-day the Court has again rejerted the Wanganui agreement clause in relation to under-rnt© workers, and inserted its usuai clause as in the Dunedin award. The Wellington men thereby secure tho same concessions as tho rViinedin men without having x -o pay the price they agreed upon for them.
