At the annual meeting of Australian Steamships, Limited, the chairman referred to the decreased profits, due to the increasingly heavy demands of all sections of employees. If the new demands were granted the shipowners would bo compelled in self-preservation to increase fares and freights, even though the result meant possible diminution and diversion of trade.
