MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A meeting convened by the Addington Burgesses' Association was held en Thursday •veniag to consider the proposal to establish a brass band in the Addington district. Mr XV. A. Sheldon, chairman of tha Band Rotunda Committee, was in the chair. Mr E. Parlane moved:—"That in tho opinion of this meeting steps should be taken to form a brass band in Addington and that a committee should be appointed to deal with tho proposoi and report." He stated that nineteen piayera had already promised to join tho band. Mr T. Wilson seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously, and the following committee was set up, with power to add to its numbers: —MessTa J. Chorwin. 3. Laurenson, F. Wilson, A. Pratt, R. Woods, H. H. Lane, F. G. Robbins, A, E Snowball, D. McCracken, D. Brown, T. J. Noonan % F. T. Musaon, H. Allison, and W. A. Havoon. At a meeting of the committee later Mr Wilson was appointed secretary and Mr Robbins treasurer, and Messrs McCracken, Brown, and Pratt were appointed a sub-committee to enro! honorary members acd to canvass tho district.

Tho Linwood branch o; the Salvation Army held the annnal harvest thanksgiving tvrvices on Sunday last. The hall, under the supervision of Mr Wormajd, was prcttilv decorated with wheat, fruit, vegetables, and flowers. Envoy Matthews was in charge of the services, and gave special addresses oppronnate to the occasion. Thc songsters, under tho leadership of Mr J. Mathieeon, san? several company songs, and tbo band, under Bandmaster J. Clark, a!«> contributed selections during the day. On Monday evening tho Oxford terrace Baptist Church choir B»vc a programme, which was h~artiiv tnjoyed by a largo congregation. Messrs Nicholson, Mahan, and Hyslop; club captain, Mr C. Hyslop; hon. secretary Mr I. Osborne Bentley; treasurer, Mr D. McCormack; hon. nuditor, Mr E. Mahan. It waa decided to enter two teams in the competitions, viz., junior and third grade. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers and the donors of cheques, etc., for their enthusiastic interest shown in tbo welfare of the club. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
