NOTES. Acceptances for the Ohinemuri J.C. 8 Annual Meeting close this evening. Nominations for the principal events nt tho Auckland R.C.s Autumn Meeting close this evening- ' ' Nominations for the Masterton R.C.s Autumn Meeting close this evening. The chestnut hurdler Buster has rejoined D*. Moraghan's team, and is looking all tho better for hi^*spell. The Hon. J. Allen was amongst those present at the Akaroa Meeting yesterday, and at tho conclusion of .the Peninsula Cup, won by Flower of the AVost, he presented the handsome cup to Mr A. Boyle. The victory proved a popular one, and' after tho ceremony was over cheers were given for the winner of the Cup and Mr Allen. Glenfinnan put up an inglorious display in tho Peninsula Cup at tho Akaroa Meeting yesterday, and after being well placed for thq first six furlongs he went to the front, and at the entrance to the straight looked all over a winner. When the final pinch came, however, he failed badly, and did not appear to gallop at all generously. The race for the Peninsula Cup at the Akaroa Racing Club's Meeting yesterday proved an excellent one, and Flower of the West, served by her light impost, just managed to defeat Thrax, who had 331b the worst of the weights. Mr Buchanan's gelding, nicely handled by F. E. Jones.; ran a really good race, but found the big weight just beyond his capabilities. Flower of tho West was imported from England by her owner, Mr A. Boyle, and yesterday's race marked ber first appearance race over a distance. She finished very nicely, and should win more races when the class is not too high.

Since the last meeting 'was held at Motukarara oxtensivo improvements havo been carried out on tho Club's course, but there remains still a great deal to do beforo the racing public ard properly catered for. The grandstand is not nearly big enough for the largo crowd that attends, whilo there are no horse boxes in the saddling paddock. However, it is quite probable that these details will be attended to in the near future, and visitors "to the course next year will see big improvements. Already the race track has been fenced and levelled, and the going yesterday, though perhaps a trifle hard, was veiy good.

Valhalla, the winner of the Maiden Plate at Akaroa, has for some time past been spoken of as possessing more than the average burst of speed. He quite lived up to his reputation yesterday, when lis easily defeated his opponents, inunni!ng the six furlongs in l_un. 13 3-osec. -His performance was a good one.' and suggests that he may be seen to advantage in more pretentious comf_iny than he beat yesterday. His dam Teaoe is by The Officer—Content by Dreadnought—Lullaby by Apremont— Hammock (imp.) by Orest. "When a youngster Valhalla met with a serious injury through coming into contact with a fence, and one of his knees still bean, a very unsightly appearance. Goldseekerj .the full-brother to Aittumnus, ran a good race in the Hurdles at _lotukarara, but was a trifle lucky in "beating the favourite, Sunbeam. About ono hundred yards from the winning post there is another post, and Hagerty, the rider of Sunbeam, thinking this was the finish of tho race, eased off riding the Sant Ilario gelding. On realising his mistake Hagerty again set to work, but just failed to land his mount first past the post. It will bo remembered that twelve months ago the rider of Glenfinnan, in the Cup, mado the same mistake, which probably lost the Clanranald gelding's connexions the race.
