THE ETHICS OF SEABATHING.
TO TDK EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I have read a good deal of correspondence on this subject. To satisfy myself I visited New Brighton a few Sundays ago. From what I saw on that occasion I am sure the Rev. Mr Mathias is quite right. Delicacy prevents mc from describing in a public newspaper what actually occurred, but if anyone interested in the matter will call upon mc I shall be glad to state the facts. I enclose my address. —Yours, etc., C. A. C. CUNINGHAM. TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —While we all recognise Mr Mathias's praiseworthy efforts to check any attempts ,at impropriety on the beach at New Brighton, his remarks would have carried more weight had they been supported by facts. As to your correspondent who has abandoned his intention of buiTding o*;e house here, because his feelings are outraged, I have just built two. which will make up for the deficit. If, however, things aro as bad as "A Resident of Twelve Years" would have us believe, I can always pull them down again. Considering the numbers who indulge in tho bathing and sun-bathing which such efforts are being made to discredit, it is not surprising if an occasional lapse from propriety may be detected by those on the look-out for it; if not. a judicious embroidery, of the f__is, and a fertile imagination is all that is needed.—Yours, etc., HONI SOIT QUI MAL V PENSE.
