NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Mr*ssrs P. Sclig (president), \V. E. Simes, W. 11. Denton, 11. F. Nicoll. XV. Hay-wa-d, C. S. Howell, and A. L. Myers. An apology for absence was received from Mr C. F. Mark. Tho newly-formed Kaikoura Trotting Club forwarded an application for registration. The secretary wrote that the club had a membership of 120, and the nearest club which included trott.ng events on its programmes waa tho Cheviot Racing Clnb, but it took three days to attend meetings of that body. Mr Nicoll proposed that tho cub should be written to asking if it could give any idea of tho amount of stokes to be given, the date en which it was proposed to race, and whether it would be agreeable to accept an adviso:y steward appointed by the Association. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Denton, but was lost by threo votes to two. A further motion on similar lines was also lost, but a motion by Mr Denton, seconded by Mr Howe]!, that tho matter should be left in the hands of tho secretary to make further enquiries, was canicd ou the casting vote of thc chairman.

Correspondence was read from tho For bury Park Trotting Club in reference to the appeal cf T. G. Fox, owner of Rope Gauntlet, against the club's decision in dismissing his protest -.gainst Tottywood on tho ground of interference. At the last meeting of the Association, tho Board had decided that a3 tho question was one of fact, an appeal could not lie, and had directed that tho fee of i'lo should be refunded. The club now wrote stating that the order to pay out the dividend had not been given until after the expiration of ten minutes, as provided in tho. rules. Mr Fox had come in immediately after the race, end stated hia intention of entering a protest, but had been informed that tho stewards had decided to take the matter up on their own account. He had returned later, and stated that he still wished to protest, and the secretary of the club had accepted the protest, although it w__s___.af.cr the specific., time. Tho payment of dividends had been continued after the protest waa d-.smissed.

A letter from Mr Fox stated that he had not been given an opportunity of bringirt., wituof-es, though he bad -tated at the nd-jo-urned meeting that he was prepared to call evidence.

Thc President said that ho thought tho club should have ffivcn Mr Fox an opportunity to call witncseet.. Mr Nicoll 6aid he did not think that sufficient notice was taken of these cases of interference. He had seen the raco, and conardered tho caso a particularly glaring one, and he would move that tho driver of Tottywcod be fined __10. The motion waa seconded by Mr Howell, fend carried by four votes to two. On tho ground tha* the acceptance of the protest waa irregular it wan ordered, that tho protest fee of £5 should be refunded to Mr Fox. Seven programme- __■ passed by the Executive wero appiovod, and tho action of that body in granting perin__s.on for the Granity Trotting Club to change the dato of its meeting from Deocmber 29th to April 4th was endorsed. Tho Forbury Park Trotting Club'a programmo for April 2i»th and May 2nd was passed. The Licensing Committee recommended the issue of a number of liceneca. The Committee recommended that thc application of E. S. Groat be refused, and that the further sum of £4 be voted to F. Jone* aa final payment in leapoct of his accident. The report was adopted. Mr C. S. Howeli, hon. treasurer, said that at tho next m-etui;- ho would have to apply for leave of absence for the remainder ot the Hoard's term of office, aa he was to jeave New Zealand for a six or coven months' trip. NOTES. Papalit-, the winner of the Hack Handicap Hurdle Raco yesterday, is a •veil-bred four-year-old son of Pa-pa-ki-ra and Austerlitz, and was bred by the owner, Mr D. Buick. Austerlitz v\__- by iSoult— Sappho, by St. Leger— Brassolis, by Panic. Tavistock, the winner of the Nursery Handicap at D-annevirke yesterday, is by Mr Harvey Patterson's stallion Vasco from Mayhap, by Tho Poseitle —Hinenuitepo, by Carlyon—Nair.oa. by Nordeni'eldt. The progeny of Vasco have won several races during the pre3~nt season, the winners inchiding Counsel and Kazan. Kooya, who annexed tho principal event at the TJannevirko Meeting yesterday, is a four-year-old filly by "--ie-n-iniaii—lvoi Ano, and was bred by Mr S. H. Go-Han, her dam being by Tho Possible- Leonie, by Leolinus — Amohia by Towton. Kooya has been somewhat of a disappointment, as on several occaisions she was greatly fancied, but failed to run up to expectations. Lost season .sho started ten times, and ran third three times. The V.U.C. Autumn Meeting will bs ndvanced a further stage to-day, when th>_ principal event to bo decided is the C. M. Lloyd Stakes, a sweepstakes of 12 soys each with 15C0 soys added. Amongst those nominated for th'_ raca were :— Sen Prince, Popin.jaj*, .Tolly Beggar, Cider, Wolawa, It ad nor, Andelosia, Traquette. and the ex-New Zealanders, Broadsword, Valido. and Anna Carlovna. This race is run over _. mile ur.de-' the weight-for-ago scale. The meetings held annually by the Akaroa Racing Club at Motukarara always provide excellent sport, and today's gathering will prove no exception to tho. rale. Excellent «-ccep-tance-3 were received for the different events, while the class of horses engaged is well above the average. In the Cup. Thrax, who will carry tho steadier of 9st 13"b, will probably start favourite, while the chance- of Canute and Glenftunan are _a.so being discussed. Gienowl is an unlikely started, but there is no reason why Flower of the "West should not run out a solid mile and a quarter under a light impost, -while Civrysotis (6st JSIb". may run well if properly handled. The fields in all the otner events should be larga enough to provide good racing, and altogether th* fixture looks like being a record on»j for tlie club. Special trains will bo run from Christchurch to Motukarara. The first, which leaves tbe Christchurch railway (station at 10 a.m.. will pick up passenge-v. where required, but the second, which leaves az 10.40 a.m., will mak.» a non-stop run. T'-o trr-ins will leave Motuka-rara-at 5.39 p.m. and 5.5j p.m. i_._. tiveiy.
