Mr F. Digby Smith, traffic manager at Sydney for the Union Steam Ship Company, is shortly to take up the position of munager with Messrs Nelson and Robertson. Mr Smith, who is one of the best-known chipping men in New South Wales, began his lengthy service (twenty-four years) with the Union Company at tho Duncdm office as a junior, and subsequently took up the position of purser, in which capacity ho acted on different units of the fleet for some time. Later on he was apoointed sub-manager at Rarotonga, and held that post for c, considerabo period, and then filled post, of actm-»-managcr at various New Zealand offices. Preparatory to being appointed to Sydney, in June 1912, to relieve Mr Humphries, Mr -m.th was manager at the comoany's Oamaru office
