Bates, Government Meteorologist, supplied the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m. yesterday: — Showers havo fallen on the West Coast and in the southernmost districts, but fair to c'oudy weather has prevailed. Moderate to strong westerly winds havo ruled generally, but a north-east gale _3 reported this afternoon at Kaikoura. The barometer has risen sli-htly. Present indications are for variable winds, with moderate to strong westerlies prevailing, and fair to cloudy weather generally. Tho baroniet-r is unsteady with a rising tendency.
