WAIMAKARIKI RIVER BOARD

Tlje South Waimakariri River Board met yesterday, when there wero present: Messrs N. Iv. Bowden (chairman), C. Burgess, C. H. A. T. Opie, W. E. Samuels, E. Smith, W. P. Spencer, T. Leslie, and H. K. Peryma-n. A letter was received from tho Kaiapoi Borough Council asking the Board to support them in their efforts to induce tno Government to mako arrangements for a better system for forwarding weather and flood reports daily from tho Bealey. The Board decided to support the proposal. Messrs Dalgety and Co. asked if tho Board could sell to a client of theirs an area of 283 acres at Chanoy's corner. The secretary stated that he had replied that the Board could not part with any of its reserves. The Eyre County Council wrote stating that*thc willows in the stream near White's Bridge complained of by the Board had grown from cuttings from the Board's willows, and therefore tho Council considered that it was the Board's duty to remove them. It was decided to reply that the Board would accept, no responsibility in the matter. Tho secretary submitted the estimates for the coming year, which wero on tho lines of last year's estimates, and it was decided that no rate would be required. Mr Onic moved that the Board should take an early opportunity to inspect tho protective works at other rivers. The motion was seconded by Mr E. Smith and carried . The date of the visit was fixed for March 19th.
