COUNTY COUNCILS.
. * MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of the Mt. Herbert County Council was held on Monday last in thc Council Chambers, Purau. Present—Cr. 0. Bradley (chairman), A. It., Fleming, H. Field, Q. C. Manson, J. Hunter, J. E. Davenport, and R. Allan. An apology was received from Cr. L. M. Wilson. A letter was received from the county solicitor regarding burning gorse and bioom on the roads, to the danger of adjoining properties. Tlie clerk was instructed to make further enquiries from other loea] bodies in tho matter Dr T. W. Pairman wrote complaining of .fires being started on the beach road, and burning through his orchard, doing considerable damage to tho trees and fences. The Council resolved to consider the letter when further enquiries had beon obtained. It was re.olved to have a survey made of the beach road from the oost office. Governor's Bay. to Allandafo, without delay. The Council appointed Mr H. J. Beswick, solicitor. Christchurch, as county solicitor The question of incieasing city representation on tho L*. ttelton Harbour Board was considered, and, on the motion of the chairman the Council protested against any such increase. Tiie chairman and others spoke against the two charges now made by the Harbour Board for freight from the outlying jetties. It was resolved to wait on, the Board in the matter. It was reso'ved that on all rates unpaid by March 31st an ad'li-' tional 10 ncr cent. Ue added. The e'erk was instructed to call tenders for 100 yards of metal at Rocky Point, 100 yards at Manson's quarry, and 200 yards at Purau. Mr C. S. Manson was appointed road foreman for the Purau district. Tne financial statement showed a credit balance at the bank of £582 10s 4d, and rates outstanding amounting to £367 17s 4d. The chairman asked for permission to prepare spots for 500 or 600 bluegum on the south side of the road in tho Port Victoria riding. Permission was granted, and the Council thank*! him foi his generous offer. -. j
