.— t, — . (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, February 23. \ five-roomed house at Onehunga, owned by Mr Smith, and occupied by ;Mr J W. Stockley, was destroyed bj fire at midnight. The occupants escaped in their night attire. TAU Af AIUJNUI, February 23. Shortly after ten o'clock on Saturday night a fire broke out in the operating box at tho Strand Picture Theatre. The operator burnt his hands in trying unsuccessfully to suppress the flames, which rapidly spread. The audience was small, owing to a large number having already left, and dispersed quietly. Tho brigade suppressed the outbreak. All the films were destroyed and the interior fittings and plant badly damaged. Tho loss is covered by insurance. WAIROA, February 23. A fire at 7.30 on Sunday morning destroyed Britnell's blocx of buildings on the Marine Parade near thc wharf. Thoso burnt out were:—ttadley, bootmaker; "Wong Hum, fruiterer, and Chinese laundrymen. Willing workers saved the residence of Mr R. M. Mowat, the harbour engineer. Mr Hadley attributes the fire to a match thrown down by him just- before going to breakfast. He had not gone ten minutes before the flames broke out. The insurances were:—Wong Hum, £2/50 on the stock, in the Phoenix office; Ci Britnell. on the premises £300, in the Phoenix office. Thc former estimates his loss at £100. and tho latter at ■(■ABO. Hadlev only saved a boot machine, and lost his personal effects and £100 in notes.
