Mrs Bulstrade, who traversed Mongolia .in a caravan, states thaihe prison dungeons contain a number of refined* Chinese who are shut up tor life in heavy, iron-bound coffins, which do not permit them to sit upright or lie down. They only see daylight for o few minutes daily when food is thrown =nto the coffins through a small hole.
