OHOKA.
The harvest, mound this district is almost finished, and so far the grain is looking well. It is anticipated that several records will b". put up. _ Several farmers have already finished threshing. Last week Mr AY. Smith's machine threshed S'-'X) bushels of oats out of tho stook on Mr AA". Atkinson's farm in ci(-ht hours.
Eyre County Council workmen are at present busy putting in protection works on the north side of the AA'aimakariri river, to prevent it from coming down its old course.
The new bridge over the main drain nt Keleher's corner is now finished and passed. It will prove a boon to the district generally, as it provides a short route to Rangiora for the farmers of the west end. It will also be a great advantage to the farmers on the Pans-i----ora side, as it is much nearer to the railway station for sending away produce.
To Wainounnmu Cr-lhi'o is re-opening this week, after the ho'iday season. It is expected that a -ii-nlier'of new piils, as well as all the old ones, will be th<->r e at the starting of the term. Miss AY. Opie, M.A., is the principal. Miss Ashby, of Riccarton, is to be the matron this year.
The Bcv. C A. Fraer is at present visiting the Chatham Islands, nart ot his district. This is his annual visit. His ->lace hero is being taken by Canon Coates.
