An animated controversy is in pro gross in connexion with the federation of non-Roman Catholic Churches in East Africa. Tho Uganda railway opened v__t fields.for missionary enterprises, but the divisions in the nonRoman Churches gave Romanism and Mohammedanism a great advantage. A conference of missionaries at Kikua iv June, proposed a 6chcme of federar tion on a basis of all parties accepting the Bible, the Apostles Creed, the Niceno Creed, baptism in the name of tho Trinity, that those not confirmed should not be repelled from Communion, and that a form of Common Prayo/* should be adopted based on-the .Anglican Prayer-book.
The Bishop of Zanzibar, who be-longs-to the Universities' Mission, 'is now seeking to wreck the federation by accusing the Bishops of Uganda and Mombasa, who aro members of thc Church Missionary Society, of heresy. The Bishop of Uganda is accused of aoministering thc Sacrament to Nonconformists. _ A similar federation was proposed in Shanghai in 1909.
