SUMMARY AND FORECAST.
Mr D. C. Bates Government Meteorologist, supplied the following weather summary and forecast at 5 p.m. yesterday: — The barometer has bad a falling tendency in tho North, but a smart rise took placo in the South during tho night. Much cloudiness and fog have been reported, and rain in parts. The wind has been variable, -with strong westerlies predominating, but southeaster'ics have ruled in the South. A southerly gale was reported this evening at Kai-k-ura. Present indications are for cloudy and misty weather, with rain following generally. The barometer is unsteady, with a falling tendency. Strong northerly to westerly winds aro probable'in the North, and oast to southeasterly winds in tho South.
