THE TERRITORIALS.
*",C. SQUADRON CAMP
The C. Squadron of the Ist Mounted Rides (C.V.C), is making good.uso of its timo in camp. Tho camp is pitched in squadron coiumu, each troop is under the command of a troop leader, and can act independently of the other troops. There is thus no delay or wasto of time in inarching out or in. The plan also gives the camp a compact and orderly appearance. Strict discipline is maintained, and tho men aro responding to the demands made upon them in a spirit that is worthy of praise.
There are no idle moments, every man or group of men is kept busy. A great amount of musketry practice hasbeen done. Tho times are fixed when each troop must be at the range, and leavo it, and while one troop is engaged there, the other troops are busily engaged elsewhere, and the benefits ot being kept busy are proved- Tho work of the day is reviewed at nights. *»*• hile tho men are all smart, the smartest are those drafted in from the cadets. The training and general conduct of tho men reflect great credit on all concerned.
Ono of the most pleasing features in connection with this military camp is the surpassing generous way in which it is supported by the whole district. Every ono seems to have vied with his neighbour to help it along. The carting of fodder, gear, impedimenta, and firing was done gratis by Sergeant-Major Stubbs, Sergeant Cooper, and Trooper Meyers. Foelder was supplied by Messrs. J. Cross. C; Paget, E. Carpenter, K. Gunn. W. Wright. W. Reed. W. Skurr, R. Winter, W. Cross, M. Winter, G. Ironsides, E. Chambers, G. Earley, J. Foster, R. Boyd, E. Messrs. G. Smith and Son. installed acetylene gas in the camp, free of charge, which is a great boon, . and is much appreciated, and Mr E. F. Henderson gave tho use of tho pound for the camp. Major Johnston avers that the generosity of the district has never been excelled, and he, and his officers and men gre_tly appreciated it.
