CONDUCT OF THE POLICE.
ENQUIRY TO BE HELD. (B7 Cable.—Pre.'s Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, September 1. Dublin is quiet. The Corporation proposes to hold an enquiry respecting the alleged unnecessary violence of the police. In response to an appeal from the Irish Transport Workers' Union, Sir Kcir Hardie has gone to Dublin to investigate the causes of the riot and tho alleged police excesses. Fearing a renewal of the riots to-night tho authorities are stationing police and mounted troopers at many points in the city. The Corporation of Dublin resolved at the Lord Mayor's instance to demand a sworn enquiry into the conduct of tho police. Tho Lord Mayor added that if the Government refused he himself would hold an enquiry. Mr Larkiu has beeu remanded till Wednesday. Many of the Drogheda police havo been summoned to Dublin to assist in the preservation of peace.
