Kitchingham appeared, for. an order authorising the said David Hugh Roberts to commence a criminal prosecution for defamatory libel l>y summary proceedings against P. J. McDonnell, of Granity (Westport)', for having published,"' on or about July 30th, 1913, a defamatory liber concerning the applicant in the Christchurch "Weekly Press" newspaper. The libel is alleged to be contained in a letter written by the said P. JT. McDonnell in regard to trotting events at Greymouth. The defendant was not represented at the hearing, and his Worship made an order permitting the applicant to proceed. x
