MEDICAL STUDENTS AT WORK. (rßxss AssonATio* temkba-i.') AUCKLAND. August 31. A party of twelve senior medical students ireaehed Auckland from tho Otago University on Saturday morning, taking come in response to the request of tho 3>epartmeut of Public Health for service in the campaign against the smallpox. Four (Messrs Tapper, Watt, ■Meyers, ar.d Haslett) left for Whangarei on route to Kaikoie to to I>r. Cawkweil. Two more (Messrs Serpell and Cameron) go to Mongonui on Monday to d_ duty under tho direction of Dr. Mill. The remain ins six will be hept in Auckland for the time being to do patrol work, and assist in vaccinating contacts. 1 As a result of the location of a soere ted -en se at Orakei on Thursday, through tiie activity of the Mayor and tho City Council's i'nspectoi.s, the Chief Health Officer has acrreod to declare a quarantine over the whole of the Orakei {settlement, until it has been declared free. The Native in authority is being allowed to come into the city in order to arrange foT supplies for Natives, but he will report himself frrouently to tho Health Office. .Superintendent Mitciell is acceding to tho rec.uc.ft of the Chief Health Officer to place a constable in charge of the settlement during the quarantine period.
