ESTUDIANTINA BAND.
Tho Estudiantina Band and Christchurch Banjo Band held their annual concert on Saturday evenihg in tbe Choral Hall. The audience was large «nd appreciative. Four numbers were given by tho Estudiantina Band, and nil were encored. A high pitch of excellence was attained by the band in tho "Poet and Peasant," one of the most enjoyable items of the evening. The men's banjo band was not Ktrengthened by the absence or one of the performers,*and the lead was rather •weak, though the performance was otherwise meritorious. A feature of the evening was the creditable showing made by the ladies' banjo band. "TanuJiauser" wa6 well rendered by tbe mandolin and guitar quartet (Misses K. Baunton, E. Thompson, and Messrs r. Clephane and L. W. Bloy), and a very pleasing performance was given by Miss K. Baunton, mandolinist. Songs w»re given by Miss Daisy L. Tyler, and Mr Leonard Barnes, while Miss Vera llanna and Mr E. Armstrong contributed recitations. Mr L. W. B!oy delighted his audience in an excellent rendering of an exceedingly difficult banjo solo, "Ragioso Rondo." His good work was also noticeable in all the concerted numbers, the undoubted success of the concert being a tribute to his ability. Tho performance is to be repeated at a later date in the V.M.C.A. Buildings, and the proceeds of the concert will bo in aid of that institution.
