(PRF.BB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) , INVERCARGILL, August 30. The interprovincial match between Southland and South Canterbury was played in glorious weather, in the presence of 3000 spectators. South Canterbury played with a slight breeze in their favour. Southland were first to attack, and nearly scored a few minutes after the commencement. Play was very even for some time. Southland nearly got over on another occasion. The South Canterbury backs were unable to get going, and any attempt at passing was smothered by the fast following-up of the local forwards. Half-way through the first spell the visitors livened up, and kept Southland penned in their own territory. Towards the end of the spell the local backs, by good kicking and dashing passing bouts, gave the visitors an anxious time, and should have scored on several occasions. There was no score at halftime. In the second spell, the Southland forwards got to work early, and soon compelled South Ganterbury to forco. On two occasions tho game became very exciting, each side making desperate attempts to score, and, if anything, the visitors had the best of the play. From a penalty bout, Lynch got an unconverted try. Southland mado desperate efforts to equalise matters, and play became strenuous. Closo on timo, Clark scored for Southland from a loose rush, tho gamo ending in a draw.
