THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
(OTSCIAI. TO "the press.") GREYMOUTH, August 31. Thero aro no fresh developments in regard to the Blackball strike. The men havo placed the matter in the hands of the Federation of Labour. It im 6tated in well-informed circles that the management of the different collieries in both the Westport and Grey, districts are tired of the' continual demands for extra pay and shorter hours, and will refuso to grant any more concessions. If the men do not shortly resume work, arrangements will be mado to divert several of the steamers now engaged in the coal trade to other parts. It is pointed out that the general taxpayers had to find £9000 last year to meet expenses iv connection with the Grey State mines, this being the sum lost in %vorking tho mines for tbe twelve months. The people are also complaining of tho high prices which they have to pay for coal, and it is not likely they would stand any further increase. In this case further developments will bo awaited with interest.
